| | Unterarten: | Icterus cayanensis (Epaulettentrupial) und Icterus chrysocephalus (Goldkappentrupial) werden nach "Illustrated Checklist of the Birds ot the World (2016)" und der "IUCN Red List" als eigenständige Arten geführt.
Die IOC World Bird List (Version 13.1 /2023) hat dies bislang nicht übernommen und führt beide Arten weiterhin als konspezifisch bzw. Unterarten einer Art, Icterus cayanensis:
1. Icterus cayanensis cayanensis - S-Guayana, Surinam, Franz.-Guayana und N-Brasilien, südöstlich entlang des Amazonas bis O-Peru und N-Bolivien
2. Icterus cayanensis chrysocephalus - O-Kolumbien, O-Ecuador und NO-Peru bis S/O-Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam, Franz.-Guayana, NW-Brasilien sowie Trinidad
